Professor Venkateswara Penugonda is the current Head of the Physics Department and a Senior Lecturer of Physics at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus Jamaica. After several years lecturing and conducting research at UWI he was elevated to the rank of Professor in 2025. His current research is examining Zinc-infused bioactive glass-ceramic nanoparticles (BGC-NPs) as promising materials for medical applications, particularly in tissue healing and regeneration, due to their biodegradability and bioactivity. He has also participated in a research team receiving patents for new design of rolling suitcases - making them easier to transport on stairs and escalators. He has more than 24 years’ experience in Glass materials Research & Teaching various undergraduate & graduate Physics courses in India, Ethiopia & Jamaica.
