Professor Nahgeib Miller is a Jamaican geoscientist, educator, and STEM entrepreneur who is passionate about helping young people discover the exciting world of science. In 2023 he founded Virtua Immersive Learning Solutions and is the Chief Executive Officer of this educational business that uses virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), and artificial intelligence (AI) to create innovative science-learning experiences for students. A graduate of Campion College, Prof. Miller earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Geology from The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona and continued with research to earn his Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree. His post-graduate research identified the origin and history of economic aggregates such as sand and gravel in the Rio Minho and Yallahs Rivers and provided a better understanding of the inflow and outflow of such materials in these river systems. This information was used to guide government policy on sand and gravel mining in those river-beds. On completion of his studies, Miller built a strong career in the geosciences. He worked at Jamaica’s Earthquake Unit where he was involved in seismic research, helping to better understand earthquakes and natural hazards. He also worked with Jamaica’s Mines and Geology Division, conducting activities such as gold exploration, mine inspection, and research into construction materials. These experiences gave him valuable knowledge about how the Earth works and how scientific research can be used to solve real-world problems. Miller then moved to Canada where he spent over 18 years as a professor of Earth Sciences and Construction Materials at Seneca Polytechnic in Canada, teaching and mentoring students pursuing careers in science and engineering.
